Clarinet Consortium Project

The clarinet consortium project aims to create a commission and performance opportunities for a new multi-movement composition for clarinet and piano. The work would be 12–14 minutes in duration, suitable for recital programming and of a moderate difficulty level (in the range of the Poulenc and Bernstein Sonatas). The commission fee would be secured through outside grant funding. Please contact me to become a part of the consortium.

Commitment:

Consortium members agree to:
1. purchase the sheet music (at cost, ca. $15 for score and parts, plus mailing)
2. present the work at least once within 18 months of its delivery

The two commitments above would be formalized in a “letter of commitment,” signed by the performer(s), to be used in conjunction with grant applications. Consortium members would present the premiere performances of the work and would be acknowledged in the printed score as co-commissioners and premiere presenters.

The funding for the project at this stage would be contingent upon grant support. Consortium members would NOT be committed to personally subsidize the commission fee. If local or regional granting sources are available, the appropriate members might be asked for non-financial application support.

Consortium members will be informed if grant funds cannot fully cover the commission fee.

Tentative Timeline:

Spring–Summer 2008: grant applications submitted
Fall–Winter 2008: grant application results (members contacted)
Spring–Summer 2009: completion of the work
Fall 2009–Winter 2010: performances of the work
[Summer 2010: possible proposal to ICA ClarinetFest for a presentation of the piece]
