Duet

for harp & viola

about the piece:

Duet is in four contrasting movements. The first and last of these are very brief miniatures which form bookends to the longer middle movements. The second movement is a simple two-part song and the third is a not-too-serious dance featuring harp pedal glissandi and viola pizzicato throughout. The work was commissioned by Virginia Crumb and Scott Woolweaver. A 1998 residency at the MacDowell Colony provided both time and support in writing the work.
